General information

There are places in the world that are, for some unknown reason, disproportionately loaded with history. Many of these are linked to the history of motorsport.
DAKAR and SENEGAL are among those that hold this distinction. Indeed, the “Dakar” was born in the seventies but is already an event that is both legendary and extraordinary. In the early fifties, the Senegale capital already had its own Grand Prix.
Not many know this, but the eldest of us will remember big names such as Trintignant, Picard, Behra, Whitehead, Swaters or Farina coming to Dakar for the races. They took their beach gear with them along with their wonderful Ferrari, Maserati, Aston or Vanwall...
Later, in the seventies, the “6 Hours of Dakar” hosted great jousting contests on the capital motorway circuit where groups 4, 5 and 6 streamed in to turn the place into a true ‘stadium’.
Now, for the very first time, the promoters of the Dakar Circuit (4.700 m, FIA homologation in category III) are organising a “Grand Prix Historique de Dakar” 9 - 11 December 2011. The weekend is bound to be a sports dream for both drivers and teams. A vacation for those who wish to start the racing season under sunny skies and live their passion in a relaxed “African” atmosphere inducing to “farniente” and sport. From the beach to the circuit and from the circuit to the beach!
The event will take place in that particular spirit. Together with a prospective line-up of championship ‘classic’ one-seaters, it will host several other series whose overall philosophy is one of ‘openness’ in the sports regulations for the cars complying with appendix K and age categories defined in the FIA regulations.
The organising committee offers competitors a three-feature package:
1. Two days of racing as well as days of private training
2. Accommodations directly linked to round trip race car transportation, bonded port, from Europe to Dakar.
3. Participant hotel accommodation and round trip transportation from Europe to Dakar.
This event is a MUST, especially for this first year!
